CHALLENGE TO CHANGE

Highlights of the 2007-2008 International Program

The paradigm shift in the way our organization functions.  The governor will empower others to actively take part in achieving the district goals.  This will enable the Lions to work independently to achieve their shared district and international program goals.

The Chinese philosopher, Lao Tzu, defined leadership this way, “To lead people, walk beside them.  As for the best leader’s work is done, the people say, “ We did it ourselves.”

The core elements of the Challenge to Change international program are:

1.  Challenge to re-build Lionism to present a dynamic focused on potential members younger than 40 years old and women members.

2.  Challenge to grow by 20,000 quality members, with specific target goals for each geographic area.  A special Team 20K team will facilitate development of membership growth plans, provide support and monitor accomplishments.

3. Challenge to develop new leaders by using modern techniques, conducting innovative leadership institutes.

4. Challenge to extend 1250 clubs that will invigorate the organization by adding members younger than 40 years old and women members.

5. Challenge to enhance the LCIF funds by increasing the number of Melvin Jones Fellowships to 4000,000.

6. Challenge to raise CSFII funding to the challenge goal of US$200 million.

7. Challenge to revive and develop the Leo movement to its maximum potential.

8. Challenge to expand the Lions Quest Program to 50 countries.

9. Challenge to re-structure the public relations efforts globally and promote a re-vitalized brand image of Lionism.  Clubs may contribute by conducting signature projects based on local needs.  The purposes of Lionism should be known widely on a global level through effective local initiatives to develop public relations programs.

Challenge to Change, an ambitious and visionary program, establishes direction for clubs an districts worldwide.  In addition to the core program elements, clubs or districts may choose to work toward the following optional goals, which are part of the United Nations Global Compact Program to achieve the Millennium development goals.
