Fellow Lions

Our zone meeting will be held October 24th at the Fort Lewis Lions Club Building @ 6:30 pm.  It will be a pot luck meal, so bring a mouth-watering dish to share with others.  The meeting is for Officers as well as other members from your club, who want to share information, learn something good and have a good time with good companions.

The purpose of our zone meeting is to develop the GREATNESS of LIONISM.  In the past two years, we have discovered that we have many awesome programs to help others.  The greatest lesson we have learned, is that each year, each and every one of us reached out and helped over 387 people with our service.  Our service is our life blood so it is important to understand the spirit of giving.  We need to ask ourselves, what great deep personal feeling do we get, when we give to others.  So please ask your club members to describe this most gratifying feeling the best way they can at your next meeting.  At the zone meeting, I will ask each club to recap the spirit that was so voiced.

To help you with this thought development, think of an ice cream cone.  When you were a child, think of the great joy you felt in just selecting the flavor.  Then when you ate your cone, it was soooo good.  You had ice cream dripping down your hands to your elbows, your face and shirt were filled with sticky gooey ice cream, and you were in heaven.  As the years went by, you put layer upon layer of “adult good sense” on your ice cream cone.  You became careful not to get sticky, get any on your clothes, does it have trans fat, how many calories does it have and on and on.  The old ice cream cone lost its true goodness.

The same is for service.  Think of the best times and personal feelings you had, when you gave something to another and it made you feel so good that you just beamed all over from head to toe.  Now that is the feeling or spirit that I want you to share with us.  The feeling that is stripped the “adult good sense” you gather over the years.  Strip away, the thoughts of, we gave them something last year, will they use it the way we want, how much will it cost and do they deserve it?  All of these thoughts tend to mask the true spirit of giving and diminish the inner feelings we need.  We must revisit this true spirit of service to keep the joy fresh, and relevant in our lives.

Please come to share, learn and enjoy the community of people in service to others.

Sincerely,
Lion Paul Paradzinski
